Introducing Miami’s Celebrity Barber Christopher Betancourt Who Works From Blendz Hair Salon.
Christopher is really talented. You can see this clearly because he provides his customers with unique haircuts over and over again. It’s so cool to see so many styles and variations. Christopher knows how to choose that special look that makes every customer look great.
1) How did you get barbering?
When I was young, my mother cut my hair. This lasted thoroughly elementary. I would be teased about bad hair, so I went to my first hair salon named Y2k cuts and got my first tape. It was life changing. I was immediately convinced that the barbershop was something I saw in my future. Everything fascinated me. From what went on television to the speeches of the barbers. My mother bought my first pair of hair clippers at the age of 14. With these Kmart haircutters I started giving myself cassettes and dissecting my little brother “my guinea pig”. I would try to reproduce what I saw in this hairdressing brochure brother and saw I had potential. My mother bought the first pair of Andi’s master and Andis Toutliner for Christmas. I started cutting my high school and all my friends came home after school. I had a line of people waiting in my living room. It’s like I should do that.
2) What do you like most as a barber?
For me, being a hairdresser is a very respected craft. Everywhere I go, I see my customers. Barber sees about 100 or more customers per week, so our network is pretty big. Not only are we respected outside the barber shop, but also in the store we can change the mood of our customers. A customer can make a bad impression on a bad day, and that can change as soon as he leaves the store. As a barber, you have the ability to give someone the confidence they need to make it through their week. It is a great feeling.
3) What is unique in your barbershop?
My hair salon is in a very densely populated area in Miami. There are about 10 barber shops in the area that compete with each other. Everyone claims they are the best and cut the best hair. My hair salon does not have that atmosphere. We all know we cut good hair but stay modest. For me, the barbershop is not a place to make friends and hang around, for me it’s somewhere to make money and only that.
4) What changes have you seen in the barber over the years?
Over the years I have seen many barbers come out of nowhere. I enjoyed social media and new hairstyles, but now I only see haircuts. It comes to the point when I’m tired of seeing Social Media Barber. Every son is a barber. There used to be some great barbers everyone would go to in the neighborhood, now you can choose from 100 stores in the area. Barbering has changed in many ways over the years, I’ve seen new hairstyles, new techniques, new products. I’m proud to say that I’ve been cutting for more than 10 years because I know I was there before the big barber-boom era happened.
5) Where do you get inspiration from?
Honestly, I constantly learn from people around me, I constantly look at others who work to see where I can get better. At that time, I worked on several hairdressing salons and picked up the different style of each and put it into my own style. You have to be creative to be a hairdresser because styles are constantly changing.
6) How do you help customers find their best looks?
I know what hairstyle looks good to a customer based on the shape of their face, the texture of their hair, and the mood they radiate. After many years of experience, I only know what a customer looks good.
7) What can the boys do at home to make it fresh from the barber style?
As a hairdresser or hairdresser, we need to give our customers step-by-step instructions on how to reproduce the style you gave them in the barbershop. You could not do what you did in the store right now, and it’s up to you to teach them. I sell a product called ADH Dry and when I show my customer how to use it, they buy the product almost immediately.
8) What are the top hair trends for men this year?
This year I noticed that boys start to grow their hair at the top. They demand an undercut that shaves the sides and lets the top grow. This style can become a manbun or just long hair. You can create many styles with long length at the top. I also saw that the Mohawk is slowly becoming fashionable again, lol.
