Award. Esquire Barber

4.5 stars – 70 Reviews

One of Chicago’s many traditional barber shops, Esquire offers 2 services. A signature haircut (plus neck shave and hot towel) and shaving foam of hot lather. Eyebrow trimmings are not on the menu, but are offered on demand. They also have a native pug, Nyla.

For more information, see the reviews for Yelp below.

Not only was I very pleased with the quality of the hairstyle and attention to detail, the pricing is just right. For $ 18, to go out of the barber shop, feel like a million bucks … you can not beat that. A + – Jackson V.

No extras in this place. It’s an old barbershop. Sports on the TV and Ali posters on the walls. Here men are cut. You will not be disappointed. Seriously, these guys are the best! Vince A.

This is the kind of barber I’ve been looking for since I moved to the city three years ago. Well-groomed clipper cuts to keep the fade-on-point, a hot foam-and-neck shave with hot towel and talc treatment and sports on the TV. If I want to do a haircut, I do not need anything complicated and I do not have to pay extra $ 20 for someone to bring me a glass of cheap champagne. What I need is a reliable, consistent cut and a price I can afford. Aaron made it out of the park with this place – a real men’s barbershop. Jim D.

  • Chicago Reader Chicago’s Best Barber Shop Runner Up 2010 and 2011

Gabby’s Barber Shop has served Lakeview since the 1980s. A traditional bar that comes first, first served and only cash, they have 5 chairs to keep waits down. They will shave your cut with a shave, but will not provide a complete shave. Put your name on the board, enjoy the selection of magazines, wifi and domestic dog and enjoy a high-quality men’s haircut at a great price.

All you need to know: Good haircut. Fast. Affordable. Blackboard sign. Old school atmosphere (gentle big band music).

Extras: WiFi. Incredible magazine rack. A relaxed dog dozing in a box. Randall R.

Down to business. You come in and write your name on the board. If you want a specific hairdresser, put the initial above your name and circle it. So you know that you will receive the treatment you have chosen. No matter how busy they are, the hairdressers always take their time. I like to pick myself up with a razor. They even offer hot or cool cloth; just a pleasure.

Unfortunately they do not provide razor blades for the face, it is too punctual and I can not argue. You are so good. Besides, I dig it in there. From time to time there is a nice dog, lovely music playing over the head, and it’s as open as the hair salon your grandfather probably went to. Aaron W.

The haircut is always well done and feels more professional in execution than … these sideburns at Hair Cuttery. They always cut my eyebrows and shave me razor-sharp. No complaints on my hairstyle.

Music + Personality + Magazine + Good Hairstyle = I never go anywhere else. Phil B.

4th Van Buren Gentlemen’s Salon

5 stars – 86 Reviews

A new version of the classic barbershop. This men’s salon is the one stop shop you need to make if you need to impress. Get a haircut, shave, Nioxin treatment, spa services including facials, wax and manicure and, last but not least, shines shoe. With an almost entirely female staff, this is not the usual Man Cave, but it’s something better. Reviewers can not agree on the best stylist and show that all Van Buren team members are first class. Become a member to enjoy unlimited haircuts and more for the year.

I have been in many salons and hairdressing salons in Chicago and no one can compare with the quality of VBG services. I strongly recommend a membership that entitles you to drinks, hairstyles and styles, shoe shine and manicure as often as you like in the year. What distinguishes the VBG are the people. Overall, this is not only my favorite salon in Chicago, but also one of my favorite places to hang out. I suggest you try it and see for yourself. – Michael F.

The best men salon in Chicago, period. And I was with a couple. I will repeat the other reviews for VB Gents here. The staff is always friendly, friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is clean and manly. They always have great music to play. You can make your shoes shine, polish your nails and sip whiskey while getting your hair cut. What else does a guy need?

Do not hesitate. If you are in the market for a large men’s salon in Chicago, this is the place. Anojo T.

Membership is a great way to feel like a true gentleman! Salvador P.

3. Pete’s Barber Shop

5 stars – 91 Reviews

Her ad that promises “You’re getting ugly, you love less ugly” shows the personality of this joint. Pete and Mike are all you are looking for – friendly, experienced and knowledgeable about hair, scalp and beard.

As with most hair salons, it is just cash and no appointments. Pete’s popularity means that there is usually a wait, but with Wi-Fi, magazines, comic books, Xbox and beer, there is nowhere where you would prefer.

In every profession, be it lawyer, mechanic or hairdresser, there is a small percentage of practitioners who are the “good craftsmen” of their craft. They are committed to finding the truth about their craft, are proud of their work, and take their time and effort to address the various little extras that add up. Pete is one of those people. I just had my haircut from him and it’s the best hairstyle I’ve ever had. Chris S.

This is my “go to place” now to get a haircut. Pete and Mike are not only masters of their craft, but knowledgeable in hair care. Each time I am there, they take the time to talk to the customers (including myself) about the right hairstyle, and I often get better informed and always feel like a million dollars. It’s what a haircut should be and how it feels. Juan M.

Pete’s also has a great range of products for your shave and care needs. I will definitely make my rule despite the travel time and the wait. A great haircut is worth twice as much. Lucas

Both are magicians.

In fact, when I die, it is written in my will that they turn my corpse into Pete’s to have what’s left of my cut and styled hair before they bring my lifeless body to the wake. Kirk S.

2. Joe’s Barbershop

4.5 stars – 142 Reviews

Open since 1970, Joe’s Barbershop is the only real thing. This family business has a devoted following and does not accept any appointments. So wait. As they say on their website, “the best time to come is when you have the time to wait.” Know, enjoy it with some of the big talk that makes this barber a destination, not a run.

Oh, and the haircuts and shaves are good too. The well-thought-out product selection ensures that you can create the same look at home. Do not miss Hangover Shave on Sundays on the last Sunday of the month between May and September. Enjoy a haircut or a hot towel with a razor-sharp shave, Cuban sandwich by Ninis Deli, cold beer and Koozie and live music for only $ 30.

At Joe’s Barbershop you get a clean haircut. You get compliments when other things (your face) works well with the haircut too. I’m always waiting and looking forward to my next haircut! Thanks, Joe, for doing a phenomenal job! Mac H.

It has the old-fashioned Barber Shop atmosphere. Do not expect them to move fast, these people are old school, they are there to do a good job and not get as many customers as possible in a day.

Joe Senior cut my beard. He did an excellent job and gave me several suggestions on how to take care of it and make it look sharp. He was very careful, took his time and made sure that I was satisfied. He was a pleasant guy to talk to, and he was in conversation all the time.

I highly recommend this hotel if you have a beard and you are looking for a good place to get a cut. I did not have my hair cut, but I’m happy with the beard. I will go back to future cuts / trims. Cody F.

There are a lot of new shops that are appearing all over the neighborhood nowadays. Try to gain the popularity of classic cuts and a barbershop atmosphere. What Joe Sr. and Joe Jr. hired can not be replicated. The environment is not only historical and authentic, but also the genuine hospitality and craftsmanship.

If you are not fast enough and looking for a quick cut, go elsewhere. A good haircut takes time, and nobody needs someone in a hurry to ruin the mood in the store.

I am a lifelong Brad V.

Great place for a haircut, experienced hairdressers and great prices. This is a step back in time to a real place to have your hair cut. No mess. A + place! Chris H.

Best man’s cut in Chicago. They are thorough, giving you the cut that you asked for, not the same general hairstyle that many salons seem to give and only $ 15 per cut. I get a better hairstyle here, then I have places that are three times more expensive. In addition, the haircut looks good weeks later and they are easy to care for.

The hairdressers are friendly and customers are good for conversation. Because they are so good, they get pretty busy. Go during the workday if you can. Michael F.

1. The Belmont Barbershop

4.5 stars – 190 Reviews

Since 2005, the Belmont Barbershop offers classic men’s hairstyles and shaves from licensed hairdressers. This cash-only process includes appointments and walk-ins. Your hairdresser should be a source of inspiration for hair and facial hair, and these guys are showing the way. For a $ 19 haircut, you’ll see and feel like a million. What offer.

I had a crush on this silent Nerdy with a bad haircut sitting next to me. He was such a sweetheart, kept to himself, trembling with trembling hands over his words and could hardly meet my eyes when I asked for the daily financial reports. I could tell everything he needed was a little self-confidence.

Well, last week he’s getting dressed up with his new Do from the Belmont Barbershop and let me tell you, he seems like a brand new person, do not wait, he’s a brand new person.

Now he has a classic Don Draper look with the swaggering machismo of a young Burt Reynolds.

He even smells of campfires and gunpowder.

I’ve become the one who breaks eye contact and nervously sweats when he comes into my cabin to make small talk.

It’s crazy what a good haircut can do for a man. Heide C.

It does not get better … These guys give you exactly what you need: a haircut from a man, from a man and for a man. Haircut, clean shave, good joints, good guys. And a great price. I will come as long as I live in the city. trowels

I’ve been going to the Belmont Barbershop for at least 5 years now. I always get a great cut, never have to wait and it never takes too long. The guys are all amazing hairdressers and the business talk is entertaining and fresh. There is always tasteful music and the decor is classic. I always go out there looking and smelling as if I could take over the world. Dave S.

Hands down, Best Barbershop in Chicago, for me in the Midwest! Atmosphere, energy and talent line up in this great Chicago barber. They know hair, and they know men. It’s a must have for a great cut that’s modern but still classy as ever. Zach E.
