Red is the rarest natural hair color and accounts for only 1-2% of the world’s population. It is more common in people of Celtic and Germanic descent and most common in Ireland and Scotland, both with 10% redheads. Despite its rarity, redheads are often portrayed in the media. Although an estimated 2-6% of the US has red hair, 11% of actors do so in prime-time TV advertising.
Unlike other hair colors, red hair includes a wide range of shades from chestnut to strawberry blonde. While redheads are more likely to have freckles, not everyone does.
